SENSATION IN ACTION
Theater: The Sensing Place
An interdisciplinary approach can give a new perspective to approaching sensory neuroscience. In particular, though there are some books on the role of the senses in theater, there is an opportunity for more connection between the common knowledge factors exploited by actors of how to stimulate others to evoke an intended reaction and the neuroscience behind those factors. The demos aim to help participants become more aware of these factors. Additionally, we hope the walkover to the lab and the group activities will help people get to know and feel more comfortable with each other.
This interactive session will explore ways theater artists employ and provoke the human senses and sensory exchange between performance and audiences. Debriefings will follow a series of participatory exercises to identify potential connections with neuroscience topics relevant to participants.
